Nitrogen Dioxide Supplier to Minneapolis

This brownish, toxic, corrosive, liquefied PurityPlus® gas has several commercial uses, and Toll Company can deliver it quickly to Minneapolis enterprises.

Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂) is an atmospheric contaminant produced when fossil fuels combust in an oxygen rich environment; at high combustion temperatures, the oxygen not set ablaze with the fuel reacts with the nitrogen from the air to create nitric oxide (NO) and, in the presence of more oxygen and heat, is further oxidized to NO₂. For commercial application, Nitrogen Dioxide is produced in the oxidation of ammonia at carefully regulated temperatures in a steam-rich environment.

Nitrogen Dioxide’s most common use is in rocket motors, more accurately in its dimerized state as N₂O₄ (Nitrogen Tetroxide, NOM 4). In this application, it is reacted with hydrazine to provide propulsion. These liquefied gases offer the advantage of long-term storage in space without excessive venting from boil-off, as neither are cryogenic fluids. They are used to place motors in orbiting satellites that may require relocation later. NO₂ is also employed as an oxidizing agent in organic synthesis and in special applications as a sterilizing atmosphere.

When it’s employed in specialty gas applications, NO₂ is frequently a factor in calibration gases for environmental emission and industrial hygiene oversight.
